We were focusing on learning the letter H this week, but these things would work with any letter you’re teaching.

There is a miniature horse farm about an hour away from us called “The Land of Little Horses“.  This is someplace I’ve been several times before.  The first time it was just my husband, Paul and I because he has first-hand knowledge of my love for horses and planned the day for me.  The visits after that have been with at least one grandchild in tow. campingI realize that all children love theme parks because of the characters, the rides, the hype.  And that’s all great and fine. Trust me, I’m not against theme parks, in fact, I enjoy them on a limited scale!

But let me ask you, what are some of your most memorable vacations as a child?  If you were fortunate enough to have parents that took you camping, I would bet that those memories are at the top of the list.  Of course, times were different when I was a child, we didn’t take elaborate vacations and I don’t remember any of my friends that did either. flowers

Yesterday was beautiful, sunny and warm; today we woke up to see snow flurries swirling past our window and covering the ground.  And a cold wind; can’t forget that.  Oh well, it is March and that means “in like a lion and out like a lamb”!

When I was planning for my grandchildren to spend the day with me, my mind went to activities centered around flowers because I had seen several blooming daffodils and flowering trees in my travels.  I decided to include planting flower seeds (to be transplanted to Grandma’s flower garden later), making a flower craft and reading a book or two about flowers to round out our flower adventures. borax crystal snowflakesChristmas, along with its many special craft projects is now behind us.  Winter weather is looming large though, making it the perfect time to create crafts dealing with snow and ice.  Making Borax crystal snowflakes has to be one of the easiest and most fun craft projects we can do with our grandchildren, plus you end up with a beautiful snowflake to hang and enjoy!

So this week, after her younger siblings were in bed, my 6 year old granddaughter and I spent some special time together making some snowflakes.  They’re so simple, but turn out so pretty! Read more….
