As you know by now, if you read our “About Us”, my sisters and I live in three different areas of the U.S. Because of this we know that if we want to get to see each other, we need to travel, so we made the decision to come up with somewhere to meet and explore together each year. This year we chose New Orleans! Kathy’s husband, Steve, is the only one who has ever been there before so it would be a new experience for almost all!
We wanted to find a vacation rental that would allow us to sit around and talk in the mornings and evenings over a cup of coffee or glass of wine. When you get three sisters, who don’t get to see each other nearly often enough, along with their husbands, all together in one room it is very difficult to get a word in. At least loud enough to be heard!
I searched Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) for something in the Garden District and found a vacation rental that turned out to be perfect. It had three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom plus another bathroom off the living room. It is so nice to be able to leave your own things in the bathroom when you are staying for a week without infringing on anyone else’s space or possibly leaving personal items behind that might not stay personal for long!
The family that own the home live on the upper two floors and rent out the bottom floor to vacationers. Besides the bedrooms and bathrooms there is a full service kitchen and a small living room. Silverware, utensils, plates, and linens are all provided so it’s easy to make coffee in the morning or fix meals should you decide to. It also has a washer and dryer and ironing board for any of us that might feel the need to freshen up some things. And for those of us that just can’t imagine time away from our tech, Wifi internet access and cable HD/TV is provided.
It turned out to be perfect for our stay, from the comfortable accommodations to the pitter patter of little footsteps overhead in the mornings. The owners have two young children, which reminded us of our grandkids and made us smile when we heard those little feet. They also have the sweetest yellow lab named Creole that popped in to visit us our last morning there. Our front door was open and of course, like my dog at home, she assumed that anyone there must have come just to see her so she wandered right in. Which was great with us because we are all dog lovers!
The home was located one block from Magazine Street which has a wide variety of shopping, dining, bars and coffee shops. The French Quarter was only 15 minutes away by car. The owners were happy to answer any of our questions about restaurants, places to visit, etc., but other than that they didn’t intrude upon our stay.
Last but not least, the property is very secure. It has a high gated yard with coded entry, security cameras and the neighborhood is patrolled by a security service.
We all agree we would definitely stay here again should we decide to revisit New Orleans!
