booksAre there certain books that your children or grandchildren want you to read to them over and over?

There is a set of books at Grandpa and I’s house that are just that!

They are nursery rhymes.  12 little board books that come in a box that looks somewhat like a book itself.  There is something about these small books that toddlers just love.  I purchased our set of books when our 7 year old granddaughter was 2 years old. She loved them, then the next one loved them, and the next one loved them and the next one! Read more….

flying circusWho hasn’t heard or seen in the movies the crazy antics of the 1920’s barnstormers with their flying circus pilots and wing walkers.  But have you seen anything like them in person?  I hadn’t until a recent Sunday afternoon.

I first learned of the Flying Circus Airshow near Bealeton, Virginia last summer.  I wanted to visit and see their performance, but one thing leads to another and before we had a chance to make the trip their season was over  So this year I was determined not to miss it!

This Flying Circus has been thrilling crowds for 44 years, making it one of the nation’s longest running airshows.  Pilots of these beautiful old planes come out every Sunday afternoon from May through October to provide good clean family fun. Read more…

Gorgeous Grandma

My Gorgeous Grandma Ora Mae.

 

When I saw that this Saturday, July 23rd , is Gorgeous Grandma day it caused my thoughts to turn to my maternal grandmother.  My memories of my grandma are very few, because my gorgeous grandma died suddenly of a heart attack when I was only 4 years old.  Up until that day she was a very active and important part of my life.

My grandmother’s name was Ora Mae.  I think that’s a beautiful name.  It’s an old name; I’ve never known anyone else named Ora.  She was born at home in 1901, one of nine children.  Home was a farm in a rural area of Maries County, Missouri.  Read more….

We have found two great games that include everyone when our family gets together.  These games have proven to be fun for all, from Connor our youngest grandson of 6, to the most mature folks, Mike and I!   This weekend was no exception.  I’m certain our neighbors must have heard the commotion!

Pit was the first game on our agenda.  This game has been around for a very long time, it was published in 1904!  Just to put that into perspective, the Wright brothers flew the world’s very first airplane the prior December. read more….
