Between the LinesI am so excited to be a part of the special “Between the Lines” blog series organized by Katherine over at KatherinesCorner.com highlighting bloggers age 50 and over!  Katie asked that we share a little about what our blog is about, ourselves and challenges of blogging at our age.

My bloggy beginning….

I was completely unfamiliar with blogging until my daughter-in-law started one.  Her beginning was very humble; she was hoping to be able to acquire free diapers for her and my sons new baby.  Her blog has grown tremendously and she inspired me to think that maybe I could actually create and write one too!

I enjoy sharing the recipes I try that turn out well! This is a delicious one!

My blog was birthed in May 2015, with both of my sisters in tow! Since then they have both dropped out because they found it to be too stressful when added to their already busy lives.

So my adventure alone began in January of this year.  I’m dedicated to writing and learning and growing my readership.  I consider my blog to be a lifestyle blog revolving around baby boomer aged women.

Travel is another topic I like to write about. I like to share unique places for my readers to explore!

A little about me….

My husband and I and our two sons moved to West Virginia from California in 1995 because of a fantastic job opportunity for my husband.

The heart breaking part of that move was that my 19-year-old daughter chose to stay in California.  She was dating the man that is now her husband and made the decision to stay where he was.  (Wow, she chose true love over me, I just can’t understand that!)

I have worked many jobs in my life time, but my dream was always to be a nurse.  When we moved to West Virginia there was a state college about 15 minutes from our home.  I slowly began taking classes, one at a time, until I enrolled in the nursing program.  I became a Registered Nurse at the ripe, great age of 48.  A life time dream fulfilled after much hard work!

I’m now 61 and have made the decision to stay home.  I want to spend time with my grandchildren and gardening, cooking, reading, blogging and maybe fit in a little housework!

Grandparenting is definitely a favorite topic. Whether it’s going on adventures, making crafts or just rocking, I love it!

Blogging Challenges….

Blogging has been both a great experience and a challenge for me. I was accustomed to working on computers, but I wasn’t savvy with social media at all, in fact, I wasn’t even on Facebook! I have had much, much to learn and much more still to learn.

I can remember when the internet was in its infant stages.  I was working in a U.S. Navy technical library and we were given a class to expose us to this new source of information.  We’re talking DOS now (remember DOS)! We were all completely amazed and it was nothing like it is now.

Excuse me I know I’ve gone off topic, but do you remember pong, the very first video game?  We were amazed at that too!!

This nautical anchor is one of the DIY projects I’ve shared with my readers.

Back on topic!  I have faced some physical challenges related to the amount of time I spend on the computer.  First of all, my eyes get blurry after looking at the screen for so long and I have to put the computer down and walk away and do other things for awhile.  Second, I had the beginnings of carpal tunnel in my left wrist and when I first started the blog I was using my lap top without a mouse.  It greatly exasperated my carpal tunnel!  Using a mouse really helps with that.  Third, I have a little arthritis in my right hand and it will flare up a little with excessive usage.   There you go; I have admitted to my physical ailments.  Tell me, have any of you faced these, or other challenges like these?

Overall I have truly enjoyed my blogging journey so far.  I plan to continue working on this little labor of love.  I would certainly love to be able to make at least a little income as I pour myself into it!  Right now I’m trying to look at the different ways available to do that and come up with what will work for me.

In closing….

Thank you Katherine for organizing this entire series.  I know it has been a tremendous amount of work for you!  I can’t imagine trying to organize 80+ bloggers, all busy and going in different directions! I think I speak for everyone when I say “we appreciate you tremendously”.

I also want to say thank you so much to every precious reader out there that takes time out of their busy day to check out our blogs!

And last, but not least, to all of my 50+ blogging cohorts, I look forward to connecting and getting to know each one of you!

Hi Teresa—it’s so nice to meet you through between the lines!
I can so relate to your statement about the physical challenges—my husband keeps telling me to get up and move around instead of sitting for hours—and he’s right! But it’s hard because I get so caught up in what I’m reading & writing!!

I chuckle because I do the same thing. I think I’ll do just one more thing and then stop but then that turns into “just one more thing”!

Hello from a fellow Between the Lines blogger! How very cool that you followed your dream and became a nurse at 48! I am meeting more and more people who are doing that same thing (well, the dream part, not necessarily the nurse part 🙂 ), and I love it! And yes, I do remember DOS and the very first menu I ever created using it — wow, when you pressed “W” it actually opened WordPerfect, and “H” actually opened “Harvard Graphics”! Now, anyone remember THOSE programs?? I have to confess, though, at first I read “DOS” as an acronym “D-O-S” and had to pronounce it out loud before I remembered what it was, haha! Lovely to “meet” you and enjoy those grand babies!

Hi Teresa, I’m so glad I found you through the Between the Lines Series. It has been super exciting meeting other bloggers the same age as myself. Boy do I remember DOS lol … I was a paralegal when the whole computer/internet came about and will never forget the record size floppy discs we used … it still makes me chuckle … how archaic it seems today lol.

I remember discs too! I was actually a keypunch operator when we were punching holes in cards. Then the cards were loaded in batches into our huge computers. Wow, I’m really dating myself! Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

It is so nice to meet you Theresa. You certainly are a brave lady to go after your dream of becoming a nurse. Bravo to you. And now to be blogging, as we all are in the same boat. I also get sore after sitting for a few hours.

I’m finally getting caught up on this week’s featured bloggers in the series. First, I LOVE the name of your blog, Teresa! Oh how I can relate to the blurry eyes and carpal tunnel symptoms. Added to your list for me is numb butt syndrome and stiff knees from sitting too long. Sure we seasoned bloggers may have a few aches and pains that our younger cohorts don’t have but there are so many other positives that come with this phase of life. I love the 50’s and wouldn’t trade it for anything! Anyway Teresa, just wanted to pop in to say hello and I look forward to following you on your social media platforms.
